The 2024 reflections of CareerMate’s founder: Chris

This time last year, I felt the need to push myself into new and unfamiliar spaces.

Fast-forward to now, 2024 has been a year of massive personal and professional milestones.

If you’re reading this, you’ll know I recently launched CareerMate (Oct ‘24), a seedling of an idea that became a reality, and stepped into my first board role with Wingspan (Apr ‘24); New Zealand’s second oldest charity.

Both experiences taught me the value of leaning into the unknown. It’s not always comfortable, but it’s where resilience is built, and opportunities start to unfold.

On a personal note, I was lucky enough to enjoy a belated European honeymoon with my wife Evelyn, and we're now getting ready to celebrate our first wedding anniversary!

Time has flown.

These moments remind me of what's most important. And my family, mates, and community have all been a constant source of inspiration and support.

2024 has been a year of growth. I’ve learnt more about who I am, what drives me, and the importance of making decisions with intention and purpose.

Two lessons I’m carrying into 2025 are:
1️⃣ Comfort is the enemy of progress.
The moments of discomfort this year have been the ones that pushed me to grow the most.
2️⃣ Relationships are everything.
The people around you shape your direction, perspective, and ultimately your growth. Double down on the relationships that fill your cup. You won't regret it.

As we close the year, I encourage you to reflect.
🤔 Ask yourself: Is my career aligned with what I truly want?

Here’s an idea: Instead of focusing solely on big goals, think about the small, consistent habits you can build to bring you closer to them. Growth happens behind closed doors, in the 'mundane' minutia of our daily routines.

To those who supported along the way, near or from afar, thank you! Enjoy the holiday season, and get some well deserved rest. I look forward to reconnecting in the new year 🙌
